The DELF and the DALF
NOTE WELL
Students in lower and upper secondary schools (middle school or high school) are MANDATORY to register for the DELF SCOLAIRE sessions.
The DELF TP and DALF sessions are RESERVED for ADULTS.
The DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) and the DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) are official diplomas issued by the French Ministry of National Education, certifying the French language skills of foreign candidates.
The DELF and DALF certification system includes 6 independent diplomas, of progressive difficulty, which correspond to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
- The DELF includes 4 levels: A1, A2, B1 and B2
- The DALF includes 2 levels: C1 and C2
THESE DIPLOMAS CAN BE OBTAINED INDEPENDENTLY OF ONE ANOTHER, EVEN AT DIFFERENT EXAM CENTERS. Once generated, the Candidate Code remains valid forever.
Each DELF or DALF diploma consists of four tests that assess four skills: listening and writing; speaking and writing. Information on the structure of the tests, as well as some examples (fully downloadable), is available on the France Education International website.
The DELF exists in several versions:
- DELF PRIM (A1.1 – A1 – A2)
- DELF SCOLAIRE (A1 – A2 – B1 – B2)
- DELF TOUT PUBLIC (A1 – A2 – B1 – B2)
- DALF (C1 – C2)
With no expiry date and aligned with the language proficiency levels defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, they are a tool for enhancing individual academic careers and promoting student and professional mobility.
The Alliance Française of Genoa is the only certifying body and examination center for the DELF, DALF, TCF, and DFP certifications in the province of Genoa.
You can use the Teacher Card and the Youth Culture Card to register for the DELF/DALF language certification exams.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TESTS
During the school year, the Alliance Française de Gênes offers group and individual preparation courses for the certifications, both in person and online.

RESULTS
To view the DELF-DALF exam results, click on the attachment corresponding to the session you attended.
For confidentiality reasons, the results are associated with the candidate's number, which is communicated to the candidate during the exam and is included on the invitation.
WITHDRAWAL OF CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS
Certificates and diplomas can be collected from our office.
Diplomas are generally available 2 or 3 months after the end of a session.
Diplomas can be sent by registered mail to interested parties. A contribution to postage costs will be required.
REPRINT DIPLOMAS
In the event of loss of the diploma, a duplicate may be issued upon written request to the examination center. The duplicate will be issued within three months of receiving the application and requires a €30 fee.
All requests to reprint the diploma for changes or corrections will incur a fee of €30 per diploma, payable by the candidate.
TCF
The TCF (Test de connaissance du français) is a general French language level test for non-French speakers who wish to certify, for professional or personal reasons, their knowledge of the French language.
No diploma is required to apply to the TCF.
The TCF is not a diploma, but a certificate valid for 2 years.
Registration for sessions must be done exclusively by email or on-site.

For the moment, the tests at the Genoa office are conducted exclusively on PAPER.
The results are available after about twenty days.
TCF TP
The TCF (Test de connaissance du français) is a general French language level test for non-French speakers who wish to certify, for professional or personal reasons, their knowledge of the French language.
No diploma is required to apply to the TCF.
The TCF is not a diploma, but a certificate valid for 2 years.
The TCF consists of 80 multiple-choice questions, with only one correct answer.
The test is divided into 6 levels: from a basic knowledge of French to a mastery of the finest nuances of the language on complex topics.
It includes:
- 3 mandatory tests useful for evaluating oral and written comprehension skills and mastery of French grammatical structures
- 2 complementary tests which always focus on oral and written comprehension skills.
MANDATORY TESTS
- Listening Comprehension: 30 questions in 25 minutes. This test aims to test your understanding of spoken French, particularly common expressions, radio or television messages or announcements on current affairs or other topics, and any type of speech delivered at normal speed.
- Mastery of grammatical structures: 20 questions in 20 minutes. In this test, the questions are in the form of sentences or dialogues in which you must find errors, choose the correct form, or find equivalents for certain expressions.
- Reading Comprehension: 30 questions in 45 minutes. This test tests your ability to understand words and phrases used in everyday language, information contained in documents, texts in everyday language, articles by authors on specific subjects, specialized articles, or literary texts.
Total duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes for 80 questions
COMPLEMENTARY TESTS
- Speaking: 15 min. The candidate is assessed on his or her ability to: describe his or her home and acquaintances, discussing their living conditions and professional or academic background; relate a fact or describe a project, the plot of a book or film; and give his or her opinion on a project, outlining its advantages and disadvantages.
- Written expression: 60 minutes. This test includes 3 exercises:
a- Write a message describing, narrating, and/or explaining, addressed to one or more recipients, whose status has been specified in the instructions. Expected word count: minimum 60 words/maximum 120 words.
b- write an article, letter, note, etc. addressed to multiple people to share an experience or story. Reports and accounts will be accompanied by comments, opinions, or arguments, depending on the objective (e.g., vindication, reconciliation, etc.). Expected word count: minimum 120 words/maximum 150 words.
c- Write a text (for a newspaper, a website, a colleague, a superior, etc.) that compares two points of view on a social issue, expressed in two documents. The candidate expresses his or her opinion on the topic addressed in the two documents. Minimum word count: 120 words/maximum 180 words.

TCF CANADA
The TCF (Test de connaissance du Français) for Canada issued by France Education International (FEI) is a French proficiency test designed to meet the standards of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and meets the needs of people planning to move permanently to Canada (outside the province of Quebec).
The TCF for Canada is valid for economic immigration and Canadian citizenship applications. All persons intending to undertake permanent economic immigration procedures or obtain Canadian citizenship at IRCC, regardless of their nationality and language of origin (including French and people from French-speaking countries), must take the TCF Canada. Under no circumstances can the TCF Canada be waived.
The TCF Canada consists of 4 compulsory tests organised according to progressive level of difficulty, in accordance with the references given by the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning, Teaching and Assessment and the Canadian Language Proficiency Levels.

TCF QUEBEC
The TCF for Quebec was specifically designed to meet the standards of the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities of Quebec (MICC) and addresses only the needs of people planning to move permanently to Quebec.
Language assessment in the context of immigration to Quebec Since August 1, 2013, the MICC has modified its language assessment requirements, bringing three main changes:
- introduction of a minimum B2 level required to obtain points in an immigration application.
- Introduction of the assessment of written skills (comprehension and expression) to obtain more points.
- Elimination of the concept of mandatory oral tests with the introduction of "modularity," allowing candidates to compose their Quebec TCF based on the skills they wish to be assessed for. Thus, each test can be scored according to the scale established by the MICC:

To obtain the maximum score, it is recommended to prioritize the oral tests (expression and comprehension), which can yield up to 14 points out of a total of 16. Candidates who believe they have an advanced level in the written tests may choose to pass all tests. The "modular" TCF for Quebec: to meet these new needs, since February 1, 2014, France Education International has been evaluating the TCF for Quebec in both paper and electronic versions, introducing the possibility of registering candidates for one to four of the possible tests and thus composing their own fee:

TCF IRN
The « TCF Intégration Résidence Nationalité » was designed for non-French people aged 16 or over who are undergoing the procedures for:
- an application for French nationality
- an application for a long-term resident card
- an A1 level validation within the OFII (Office Français de l'Immigration et de l'Intégration) city pathway
The test consists of 4 compulsory tests (written and oral comprehension and written and oral production) and lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The assessment is expressed between levels A1 and B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

DFP
The Professional French Diploma (Business, Tourism, Hospitality, International Relations, Health) is a certification of your level of knowledge of the French language in a professional context.
This certification is offered in over 100 countries and at over 800 accredited centers. This certification allows you to enhance your skills:
- during your school career, to complete your academic degree and obtain credits;
- as part of your professional career, to certify your language skills and promote your international mobility.
The DFP levels are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Paris Chamber of Commerce is recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) as a French language certification body.
Once they have obtained their diploma, candidates can join the DFP – Le Français des Affaires (French Business Association) Alumni group for free. This LinkedIn group was created to facilitate global connections between businesses seeking French-speaking professionals in a professional context and candidates who have obtained the DFP certification.
